RAFFEL: STARS BEGINNING TO APPEAR FOR CHARM
By: Bruce Raffel (LFL360.com – BALTIMORE)
When you mention the Baltimore
Charm, most people start with their rookie and LFL MVP candidate,
Kyle DeHaven. DeHaven has played and excelled on both sides of the ball at
middle linebacker on defense as well as running back or wide receiver on
offense. However, as the team now has three games under their collective “belts”
including two impressive victories, other player’s stars are beginning to shine
bright for them as well.
Center Holly Wilson is now a solid mainstay of the offensive line. She even
caught a pass in the win over the 42-6 Toronto Triumph. “It was a real treat.
I’ve been waiting to do something else to mix it up a little… Makes the game
more exciting for me,” she said about it.
Opal Jones usually plays all over the pace on defense, but got a few reps at
running back in the Charm’s last game, scoring her first career TD on a short
run. Opal was “super-pumped” for the chance and said, “I feel I can
be a strong contributor on both sides of the ball, and for Coach Reeder and
staff to finally give me the opportunity, I wanted to capitalize. It felt
AWESOME. I knew that if given the chance, I could do it, and when I got it, I
couldn’t be more happy.”
Defensively, the Charm has evolved over the first three games and now feels
it has the right mix of veterans and rookies to get the job done. One of the
newer players on defense is Charli Jackson, whose finger-tip interception off of
a Toronto pass might have been brought back for a long pass if not for a
questionable penalty, feels real comfortable in her new role. Jackson’s take on
the play was this:
“Well the defensive play we where in set me up perfectly for the
interception. I just did my job as a safety…dropped back, read the quarterback
and was in the right position for that money catch. (The) whole time I was
thinking once the ball was in the air was “here is my pick six” but
unfortunately I was unable to score with that interception which is my goal for
the Philly game.”
LFL veteran Tiana Michaels, who plays in the trenches on both sides of the
ball, is seeing the team come together with cohesiveness as the experience
begins to add up for these bright rookies, stating, “Our team is getting
better and better with each game, which I believe no one is paying attention
to.”
The Charm host the Philadelphia
Passion this Friday at 9pm at Baltimore’s 1st Mariner Arena. They
know they have their work cut out for them but if the Passion thinks the Charm
is a one-girl team, they will see how bright these other guys stars can shine if
just given the chance. Get your tickets
